A Valkyrie is a young woman who has been infected with the A-Virus (or an alternate strain known as the V-Virus which has an evolved state known as the VR-Virus) which transforms them into either a Liberator, an Extar, or a Hybrid who has the abilities of both.
Valkyries are currently sent to one of several islands in order to be quarantined away from the general populace. However, some organizations seek to use them as disposable weapons.
Almost every character in the series is a Valkyrie of some sort.
It is not currently known if Valkyries infected with different strains can work together (ie. an A-Virus Liberator with a V-Virus Extar) but it seems unlikely in most cases. The VR-Virus Valkyries would likely be compatible with V-Virus Valkyries, though.
