The Mermaid Island is the setting of the anime Valkyrie Drive Mermaid. It is a remote island used as a quarantine area for those affected by the A Virus.
The current governing body is Wärter, which is headed by Akira Hiragi.
The island is mostly forested, with Welter having a main city. There is also a village of refugees led by Torino Kazami.
Mermaid Island is protected by a powerful barrier that usually blocks all but Valkyries from entering or exiting. Even the pods that are used to deploy Valkyries to the island are destroyed upon contact with the barrier.
